Recently I read a blog post about someone’s intentions for 2022 which inspired me to write this. I wanted to use this time to reflect on 2021 and write about my aspirations for the upcoming year. 2021 was a pretty good year for me overall. I didn’t have much expectations or goals for except one - read a ton of books. I wanted to set a realistic reading goal for myself so I pulled my iPad out, opened apple books and set my goal to read 36 books in one year . At that time I thought it was pretty realistic and thought I would easily accomplish it. I was wrong.
Since I had a hectic semester along with me trying to find an internship and continuing my creative work (art), it became impossible for me to read every single day. And there were times I had the time to read but still couldn’t simply because I didn’t enjoy the book. So eventually I could only finish 23 books last year which isn’t too bad, I am happy I tried to read as much I could, it was fun too!
I also learnt plenty of new skills and hobbies I enjoy doing last year including - touch typing (might write about it soon), mobile first design approach, contributing to open source presentations & speaking, blogging and painting.
Coming to 2022 goals, I just want to do one thing and that is - create more.
I spend a lot of time consuming content - scrolling mindlessly on YouTube without having focus, watch tutorials but never make projects to know if I actually understood the tutorial, watch speed paints and but hardly ever paint etc. I know I enjoy being creative but I don’t give enough time to create and explore since I spend half of my day just watching or reading.
This isn’t to say that I am going to only create and never consume content, but instead I want to shift my focus to creating. Maybe I will spend 30% of my time creating and 20% of my time consuming content and use the remaining time relaxing and other stuff.
This is also means I might write blogs more consistently here. I’m not entirely sure what they would be about though. I might also revamp this site a little bit in the upcoming months.
I also have a new reading goal - I want read 10 books in 2022. I know this is way lower than last year's goal. The thing is I used to skip books that were really long because I thought I would take so much time to finish it and not be able to accomplish my goal by the end of the year.
So this upcoming year I want to read all the books I wanted to read but skipped. Let's see how that goes.
Man writing feels good. I already feel strangely excited for the next year while I’m typing this line. I’m going to start making a list of ideas and go to bed now. Thanks for reading! zzzzzz
